Crossbrowser onbeforeunload?

I found a workaround for Firefox with setTimeout function because it does not have the same behaviour as other web browsers.

window.onbeforeunload = function (e) {
    var message = "Are you sure ?";
    var firefox = /Firefox[\/\s](\d+)/.test(navigator.userAgent);

    if (firefox) {
