TelephonyManager tm = (TelephonyManager)this.getSystemService(Context.TELEPHONY_SERVICE);
String countryCodeValue = tm.getNetworkCountryIso();

This will return ‘US’ if your current connected network is in the United States. This works without a SIM card even.
