You can also try to set a HostnameVerifier as described here. This worked for me to avoid this error.

socketFactory.setHostnameVerifier((X509HostnameVerifier) hostnameVerifier);

SingleClientConnManager mgr = new SingleClientConnManager(client.getParams(), registry);
DefaultHttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(mgr, client.getParams());
