SQLite Query in Android to count rows

DatabaseUtils.queryNumEntries (since api:11) is useful alternative that negates the need for raw SQL(yay!). 

SQLiteDatabase db = getReadableDatabase();
DatabaseUtils.queryNumEntries(db, "users",
                "uname=? AND pwd=?", new String[] {loginname,loginpass});
