The function* statement (function keyword followed by an asterisk) defines a generator function.

From a spec document (my emphasis):

The function syntax is extended to add an optional * token:

FunctionDeclaration: "function" "*"? Identifier "(" FormalParameterList? ")" 
  "{" FunctionBody "}"
