Controller:

}

View:

    var sites = {!! json_encode($sites->toArray()) !!};
</script>

To prevent malicious / unintended behaviour, you can use JSON_HEX_TAG as suggested by Jon in the comment that links to this SO answer

<script>    
    var sites = {!! json_encode($sites->toArray(), JSON_HEX_TAG) !!};
</script>
