You can do it this way (synchronously, but compact):
UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:MyURL]]];
A much better approach is to use Apple’s LazyTableImages to preserve interactivity.
